ACT Athletes Join SERAS

The South East Regional Academy of Sport (SERAS) has expanded its services in 2012 to include athletes from the ACT in some of its scholarship programs.

The academy has entered agreements with Bowls ACT and Snowsports ACT to become program partners along with Bowls NSW and NSW Snowsports. These new partnerships will provide eligible athletes from the ACT with an opportunity to gain a scholarship in the SERAS Lawn Bowls and Snowsports Programs. The academy also has an arrangement with Jack Newton Junior Golf to include talented young golfers from the ACT in its Golf Program from 2012.

The executive director of SERAS Garry Lane sees this as a positive move for the academy. “The Board of SERAS is well aware of the relationship between regional athletes based in NSW and the facilities and competition available in the ACT. We feel that having partnerships with ACT sporting bodies will only strengthen the quality of our programs. We are the only academy in NSW offering a snowsports program so we are perfectly placed to assist the development of these athletes from the ACT” he said.

The following 10 athletes have gained a scholarship with SERAS in 2012: Golf – Tom Armstrong (Amaroo) and Patrick Maher (Fairbairn); Lawn Bowls – Jessica Hogan (Theodore), Jaime Locke (Giralang), Michael McQueen (Spence) and Kristen Steele (Condor); Snowsports – Max Mandl (Griffith), Alia Moore (Woden), Rachel Pearson (Banks) and Hamish Roberts (Red Hill).
