| Who to Watch
The Australian Olympic Team has a total of 51 athletes. The team ranges from Olympic veterans to debutants across 11 sporting disciplines. Laura Peel is ACT’s representative in the Aerials. There are 14 athletes who started their career in NSW/ACT Interschools competitions, including five debutants; Rohan Chapman-Davies, Madii Himbury, Emily Arthur, Adam Lambert and James Matheson.
Medal Chances
Moguls – Australia is taking its biggest ever mogul skiing team to the Games with eight athletes, four females and four males. Britt Cox, the 23-year-old moguls skier is heading to her third games on the back of a gold medal at the World Championships in 2017. Matt Graham is also on good form, having already been on the Wolrd Cup podium many times this season.
Aerials – Australia’s aerial skiers will look to build on their rich tradition of Winter Olympic success. The team features a full contingent of Aussie women with dual Olympic medallist Lydia Lassila lining up at her fifth Winter Olympic Games alongside 2017 World Championship silver medallist Danielle Scott, 2015 World Champion Laura Peel and Sochi 2014 Olympian Samantha Wells. Sochi 2014 silver medallist and 2017 World Championship bronze medallist David Morris will fly the flag in the men’s competition.
Snowboard Cross – Five Australian athletes will hope to be the fastest down the mountain in the snowboard cross events. In the men’s event, dual World Champion Alex ‘Chumpy’ Pullin is set to make his third Olympic appearance, joined by Sochi 2014 duo Jarryd Hughes and Cameron Bolton. Olympic debutant Adam Lambert will round out the full Australian men’s contingent in his first Games appearance. In the women’s event, Belle Brockhoff will hope to comete after medical clearance.
Snowboard Halfpipe – With seven previous Olympic Games and 22 World Cup and World Championship medals between them, the five athletes selected to represent Australia in snowboard halfpipe at PyeongChang know what it takes to be the best. Two-time World Champion and Crystal Globe winner Scotty James is competing in his third Olympics, and he is only 23 years old! |
