Balmain Cup 1989

Report by Lyndall Hatch - Courtesy of CAC's 'Frozen Acres'

Firstly the bad news - we didn't win. Then the good news - we came second to Cooma Club.

Saturday morning was sunny and if it wasn't for an extremly fierce gale it would have been warm. The wind was too fierce for Guthega chair so we warmed up by trudging up the road to the T-bars. The course proved so demanding that three of our skiers had falls. At the end of the Slalom we were coming fourth behind Guthega, YMCA and Cooma.

Saturday night there was a dinner party at the Blue Cow restaurant. A great opportunity to meet the other teams and their supporters and to try to infulence the next days result by playing the opposition with drink.

Sunday was sunny and warm for the Giant Slalom. The snow was softening by the minute. All our skiers handled the course without mishap and although they seemed to be going so well we still managed to come fourth.

In the cross country, Lee Bygrave came a close second to Tom Landon-Smith of Cooma Club. Only 0.6 second behind Lee was Piers Greville in third place whilst Tim Greville came fifth. CAC won the cross country side of things but it was not enough to win us the cup.
