Balmain Cup 1997

The alpine, snowboarding and cross country events for the Balmain Cup were all held on the same day. Tate Ski Club successfully hosted the Balmain Cup and organized a terrific presentation dinner at the Guthega Hotel on the Saturday evening. The presentation dinner was reinstated on the program to emphasize the traditional comradeship of the Southern Districts ski clubs and to celebrate the events of the day.
The earlier start time this year took our alpine team by surprise. The formula of socializing on Friday night, then expecting to make the 8.30am start at the top on the Australian Fresh Race Course from Canberra was too ambitious for even the most dedicated skier.
Once again the Balmain Cup weekend clashed with other events such as the Australian Junior Alpine and Cross Country Championships. I am told that the organizers will change the position of the Balmain Cup on the race calendar in 1998.
