Balmain Cup 2011

This year we welcomed a number of new racers to our stable and welcomed back some familiar faces. While many clubs can claim to have racers who travel from far afeild, not many can claim racers who come from Norway!! (Albeit here on sabbatical and only immediately having to travel from Canberra). Lee Bygrave and his son Sondre, who raced in both the Board and the Cross Country, were willing participants and it was terrific that they could maintain the long family connection with the club and introduce another generation into our team.
It was, sadly, a case of what could have been. This year we managed 4th place behind Guthega, Brindabella and Cooma. Tate came in at 5th.
While the rules are complicated, a short version of the results saw us in 3rd place in the Slalom and Giant Slalom, second in the Cross Country and 5th in the Snowboard. The latter due to only having three racers finish their two runs, delivering a significant penalty that saw us drop from a probable 2nd to 4th. The good news is that all racers did a great job and the experience will serve them really well for next year!! Go CAC.
Noteworthy individual performances include Shauna Rigby, third woman in the Slalom and 6th overall, Stephen Bygrave 5th overall in the GS, Ric Sanders 6th overall in the Snowboard and, in the Cross Country, Tim Greville in the 2nd place and Lee Bygrave in 3rd.
As host Club for the year, we also had the pleasure of hosting over 70 racers and their friends and supporters to the Club for drinks and nibbles prior to a really excellent dinner and prize giving provided by Cliff and his team at the Sundeck. It is fair to say the drinks were a great success and a terrific night was had by one and all.
