About Us
SnowSports ACT is the peak body governing competitive snow sports in the ACT.
SnowSports ACT conducts events and programs for elite and recreational skiers and snowboarders.
The main community service of SnowSports ACT each year is the provision of informed advice about snow sports and the facilities available for recreational and competitive skiers and snowboarders. Its annual snow sports sale and expo offers an opportunity for the community to buy or sell new or second hand snow sports equipment.
Volunteers of SnowSports ACT have key roles in administering and organising races ranging from school level competition for the ACT and Southern NSW region to International Ski Federation (FIS) races.
ACT skiers first formed an association, the Association of Ski Clubs of the Federal Capital Territory and Southern New South Wales in the early 1930s. In 1948 the Southern Districts Ski Federation was set up, which became the ACT Ski Council in 1967. The Council was superseded by ACT Ski Association which was incorporated in 1977. Up to 1993 the Association was an association of clubs but as of March 1993 the Association has become a company limited by guarantee and open to individual and corporate (including clubs) membership. The Association formally changed its name to SnowSports ACT in 2000 to reflect its direction in promoting participation across all snow sport activities.
With the assistance of the ACT Government and the Australian Ski Federation, now Ski & Snowboard Australia (SSA), SnowSports ACT opened an office in 1990 to assist with the running of the races and the progression of the Association from a purely voluntary basis of operation to a professional one employiing an Executive Officer.
