The ACT Cross Country Junior program focuses on developing skills and fitness with age appropriate activities while fostering a passion for sport.

In 2017-18 a year-round training program will again be offered, catering for ALL levels – from beginners to those pursuing a competitive future in the sport.

What activities will the program include in 2017-18?

  • Dryland training during school term 4 in 2017 and terms 1 and 2 of 2018
  • Some on-snow training during 2018 Australian winter (term 3 of 2018)
  • A small number of dryland training camps at additional cost

What will it cost and what will be covered?

Registration is $220 per athlete for 2017-18. All ACTXC athletes must also sign up for membership with SnowSports ACT (via Ski & Snowboard Australia) in May 2018.

Registration includes:

  • Sunday morning training sessions – 8 per term. Sessions will primarily focus on rollerski agility, balance and coordination with some fitness activities on foot such as running or strength. Generally held at Stromlo Forest Park, 9am-10.30am however location and timing may change and details will be advised each week.
  • Weekday training session – Thursday evening strength and conditioning in Term 4 2017. Days and times TBA for 2018.
  • On-snow training on selected Saturday afternoons during winter 2018, starting from the Nordic Shelter.
  • General guidance on dryland conditioning will be made available to all members.


Registration and payment is made via Teamapp:
It can be downloaded to iphone or android or ipad/tablet, and also be accessed through a desktop computer. Click on ‘get the app’ in the top menu bar and follow the prompts.

Will there be any additional costs?

  • A small number of dryland training camps may be held over the year, potentially combining with NSW and VIC junior squads. There will be an additional cost for each of these, payable ahead of the camp. Further details will be provided.
  • There will be additional fees for on-snow training during the 2018 winter school holiday period and weekdays during school term 3. Details and costs will be advised.
  • Special sessions or participation in organised events – e.g. orienteering, fun runs.


Teamapp is the main avenue for communication with ACT XC junior squad members and families. Some information will also be distributed via email. Teamapp will contain:

  • Training session information – coaches, location, time, session focus, gear to bring.
  • General dryland conditioning guidance.
  • News – e.g. notification of events, items for sale / wanted.
  • Store – for registration payment, uniforms, camps, activities with an additional cost.
  • General forms – registration, medical


Helmets are mandatory for all rollerski training. You may also wish to use knee and elbow guards. Lightweight gloves are recommended (e.g. cycling gloves). The juniors will be able to use the poles better with gloves, they can reduce blisters and give some protection for the hands in the case of a fall.

If you have your own rollerski gear, rollerblades, skikes – please bring them along. Rollerski equipment will be available to loan. Information on purchasing dryland training equipment (rollerskis, ples and boots) will be provided. You should also bring along runners, drink bottle, snack for after training, sunscreen and in the case of wet weather, water proof jacket and change of clothes. Other specific gear will be advised via Teamapp.
