Unitary Model Vote Outcome

Following a Special General Meeting of SnowSports ACT held in Canberra tonight, the Snowsports ACT board is delighted to announce the outcome of motions put to members regarding the possible merger with Ski and Snowboard Australia for the sports management under a unitary governance model.

Based upon the official vote count both motions were carried.

The percentage of voting members was also very high indicating significant interest in the process and the future of the sport in the region.

Chairman of SnowSports ACT Damian von Demleux said that he was “thrilled with the turnout and the outcome as it showed that Canberran’s want to have a say in the future of snowsports and can clearly see the benefits of a merger with the peak body”.

The motions put to members were seeking their responses to a merger with Ski and Snowboard Australia and the NSW Snowsports Association to form a Northern area division responsible for the management and growth of the sport north of the Victorian border; and to allow the present Board to take steps to make this happen.

The results of the votes were 100% For (Motion A) and 100% For (Motion B) giving a clear mandate to the existing management.

Damian said “over the coming weeks and months, we will be engaging with many representatives and key stakeholders to ensure that all issues affecting  the various elements of our sport are well considered”.

This collaboration will set the direction for the merging of the entities and ensure that a robust structure is in place that will allow the sport to continue it’s recent stellar growth in both participation and competition areas.

The SnowSports ACT board is delighted by the support that it has received from its members and community partners and remains committed to delivering all aspects of it’s current programs during the merger process.

Regular E-news bulletins will keep the local SnowSports community updated on developments as progress towards a stronger, better and clearer future takes shape for the sport.
